Leibniz-HUJI Collaboration Workshop 2019

Initiative for Joint Research, Training and Qualification in History & Material Cultures

With the workshop »History & Material Cultures« institutes of the Leibniz Association, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Leipzig University are intensifying their cooperation in the joint qualification and training of young researchers in the humanities.

As part of the workshop, the public evening event »German-Israeli Cooperation in the Humanities – Between Past and Present« will take place in the Old Senate Hall of the University of Leipzig. The program includes an introduction by H.E. Jeremy Issacharoff, Ambassador of the State of Israel to Germany, as well as a keynote speech on the topic »Between Science and Politics of Memory« by Moshe Zimmermann, Professor Emeritus of Modern History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

This will be followed by a panel discussion with
- Menachem Ben-Sasson, Chancellor of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem,
- Matthias Kleiner, President of the Leibniz Association,
- Beate Schücking, Rector of Leipzig University
- Yfaat Weiss, Director of the Leibniz Institute for Jewish History and Culture – Simon Dubnow and Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The event will be held in English.
