Jahrbuch des Simon-Dubnow-Instituts/Simon Dubnow Institute Yearbook

Yearbook: Volume 12, 2013

The 2013 »Yearbook of the Simon Dubnow Institute« is centered on two focal areas: One is dedicated to Jewish military history, which primarily constitutes a history of integration of Jews into the European cultures surrounding them. Of particular interest here are questions of loyalty and citizenship. A further focus lies on the secularization of the Hebrew language, including contributions on the transformations of Hebrew as a »holy language«, especially in premodern religious literary culture, with a particular view towards secularizing trends in the Middle Ages and the early modern era. The general section and specialized categories include articles on Holocaust historiography, orientalism, Christian Hebraism, and the Wissenschaft des Judentums, as well as articles addressing the various experiences of appropriation, transfer, and dissemination of Jewish historical and everyday experiences in literature, poetry, and theater.
