Itamar Ben Ami is Affiliated Researcher at the Dubnow Institute and member of the focal project »Turning Object into Subject. Communicating Jewish Everyday Culture in Germany.«

Itamar Ben Ami researches the complex relations between modernity, religion, state, and secularism in the 20th century, with a particular focus on the political theology of Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox Judaism. His dissertation, written at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, dealt with the influence of conservative and reactionary thought in Germany on the development of Jewish ultra-Orthodoxy. His work has been awarded international scholarships such as the Posen Society of Fellows, the Minerva Stiftung, and the Rothschild Post-doctoral Fellowship. Itamar Ben Ami has served as a research fellow and lecturer at the Humboldt University of Berlin, and he is a graduate of the ultra-Orthodox Yeshiva world.
