Zwischenbilanz und Perspektiven. Zur jüdischen Geschichte Leipzigs

»City History Day« is an academic conference on a variety of topics. As part of the »Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony 2026 – Tacheles,« the conference — co-organized by the City History Museum and the Dubnow Institute — will focus on the Jewish history of Leipzig. The program is characterized by its chronological breadth and thematic diversity; the participation of established experts as well as emerging scholars is also central to the event. A key focus is on the history of relationships and supraregional perspectives on Leipzig’s Jewish history, as well as on previously underrepresented periods in the city’s Jewish history, such as the history of Leipzig’s Jewish community in the postwar period and in the GDR.

Cultural Program

At 2 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to tour the exhibition  »Berlin/Jerusalem. Schocken's Gardens« at the Dubnow Institute together with curator Dr. Caroline Jessen.  

At 5 p.m., the City History Museum will host a guided tour of the special exhibition »Momentaufnahme. Das Fotoarchiv Mittelmann« — which will have been expanded by then — including a presentation of the project.

»City History Day« takes place once a year, usually in October or November. This series of events, organized by the Leipzig Historical Society, the City Archives, and the Museum of City History, provides a forum for scholarly engagement with Leipzig’s city history and connects current and historical issues.
