Migration and transformation are constitutive elements of Jewish communities in Germany. In particular, immigration from the (former) Soviet Union in the wake of the collapse of the Eastern Bloc has shaped community life today. How can these upheavals, biographies and objects brought with them become part of museum collections and exhibitions?

In her lecture, Theresia Ziehe will shed light on this using the permanent exhibition of the Jewish Museum Berlin, which opened in 2020, and the »Object Days« project: Here, Jews who have migrated to Germany are integrated into the documentation of the recent past as experts on their own history and contribute to not only sharing migration narratives, but also making them visible in their complexity.
