Ausgestopft und Ausgestellt? Versuch einer Begegnung mit Jüdischen Museen

Guided tour

Until 14 January 2024, the Grassi Museum of Ethnology will present the exhibition »Ausgestopft und Ausgestellt? Versuch einer Begegnung mit Jüdischen Museen«. In this temporary exhibition, ethnological and Jewish museums meet and together explore the questions: What is »Jewish«? Who are the »others«? And who is actually exhibiting whom here?

In the former section »West Asia« in the permanent exhibition of the GRASSI Museum für Völkerkunde zu Leipzig, the traces of the old presentation are still recognizable. »Ethnographic exhibition aids« in the form of inanimate figurines, old texts, and partly empty display cases form the setting for the encounter between the GRASSI Museum and the exhibition »Ausgestopfte Juden?« of the Jewish Museum Hohenems.

Marc Wrasse, who curated the exhibition for Leipzig, will lead a tour through the exhibition together with Dr. Julia Roos, Science Communication at the Dubnow Institute, on Thursday, 11 January 2024, 4 p.m. Together, they will pose questions about the history, present, and future of Jewish and Ethnological Museums from their different perspectives.
