In the »Leipzig Studies on Jewish History and Culture«, fundamental questions of the history of European Jewries are put up for discussion in case studies and individual examinations. The famous Jerusalem sociologist Shmuel Noah Eisenstadt's examination of Max Weber's »pariah« thesis summarizes the results of his many years of research. Other articles present new projects on models ways of »Jewish diplomacy« in the interwar period, on »Judenforschung« during the Nazi era and on sephardic traces in Spanish literature of the Middle Ages and the early modern period. Other essays deal with jewish historical experiences in the multinational empires of Eastern Europe and analyze migration processes and policies in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
