# 09 2026: Zwischenkriegswelten
Jewish History & Culture. Magazine of the Dubnow Institute

The ninth issue is titled Interwar Worlds and explores the transitions and coexistences of war and peace, based on the two world wars as central matrices of memory. From a cultural-historical perspective, it examines mediated perceptions of war in literature and art, as well as in scholarly and everyday practices. The articles address the question of personal testimony in the face of the Holocaust and the documentation of violence during the Spanish Civil War; they also examine literary exile, the effects of war on one’s own language, and the situation of Jewish survivors in Greece after 1945. In the permanent sections this issue traces the history of Yiddish theater in Argentina and the photographs of Leonard Freed; it discusses the political aspects of urban development in Jerusalem; and presents recent publications on Jewish life in Great Britain and the late Soviet Union.
The magazine of the Dubnow Institute offers insights into the diversity of Jewish life from modernity into the present. Each issue is dedicated to a specific topic, addressing current issues, presenting fundamental contexts, and discussing contrasting perspectives. Further aspects of the subject are covered in the columns Position, Criticism, and Archive.
