Volume 9 (2010)
Jahrbuch des Simon-Dubnow-Instituts/Simon Dubnow Institute Yearbook
The focus of the 2010 volume lies on cultures of knowledge or, more specifically, on Jewish and general encyclopedias. The general section includes numerous contributions addressing the history of identity papers and their significance as emblems of belonging from the era of neo-absolutism through to the mid-twentieth century. The sections on scholarly portraits and Dubnowiana correlate with this volume’s thematic focus and consist of an article on Leopold Zunz and a study of Simon Dubnow’s promotion of a general Yiddish-language encyclopedia respectively. The volume moreover includes a research report on Jews in the Polish armed forces from 1918 to 1939 and a literature review on the Slánský trial in 1952.
