Events on the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising 80 years ago will be commemorated by several events organised by the Leibniz Institute for Jewish History and Culture - Simon Dubnow in Leipzig from 17 to 19 April 2023.

On Monday, 17 April 2023, the well-known historian Jan Tomasz Gross will speak about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising at 6 p.m. in the Paulinum of Leipzig University.

On Tuesday, 18 April 2023, at 8 p.m., members of the Leipzig University Orchestra will perform works by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Erwin Schulhoff, Marcel Tyberg, Pavel Haas and Ignatz Waghalter - composers who were persecuted, driven into exile or murdered by the Nazi regime - at the Grassimuseum für Musikinstrumente of the University of Leipzig.

On Wednesday, 19 April 2023, 8 p.m., the actress Maria Schrader will read texts by the Polish writer and journalist Hanna Krall at the Salles de Pologne. Krall survived the years in the Warsaw Ghetto as a child. The reading will be followed by a discussion between Anna Artwińska and Barbara Breysach.
