Leibniz Association selected a three-year project for funding

Research Project: The Short Life of Soviet Yiddish Literature

The Senate of the Leibniz Association has selected a three-year project for funding which will explore Soviet Yiddish literature from 1917 to 1952 on the basis of its central protagonists, works, and discursive context as well as the related politics of culture. This literature contributed significantly to the development of a unique understanding of Soviet Jewish nationality, which was located between utopian expectations of a global society, the notions of a new Soviet New Man, the contradictions of official Soviet nationality politics, and the trend towards Russification that became evident from the 1930s onwards.
