1999/2000 »On the Road – Images on the History of Mobility of the Jews«

This exhibit, designed by Desanka Schwara, explores the development and changes in spatial mobility, highlighting the theme of the underlying motives behind changes in location and space. Photos of Jewish travelers in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century are placed next to texts in which Jews on the road reflect in various ways on their experiences. The spectrum of the exhibit encompasses how people deal with small daily distances as well as religiously motivated journeys, how movement is made dynamic and altered by technology, and the experience of emigration to distant climes abroad.
