Jewish Museums in Europe. Six Case Studies: Berlin, Vienna, Warsaw, Prague, Amsterdam and Paris

The individual studies analyze the emergence of Jewish museums in these cities in the decades after 1895, and their development in the prewar period. They describe the fates of the museums under National Socialism/Nazi Occupation, and then address the (re)opening of Jewish museums in these national capitals after the end of the war, highlighting elements of continuity, and, more significantly, discontinuity. The research for these social histories was conducted with support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. At this point, all the case studies (except for Paris) have been completed and written up. They are now in the process of being published as chapters in books and as articles in scholarly journal
